LMPT’s main goal is to develop new metallic materials and to explore novel phenomena in metal physics. Materials design is achieved via thermodynamic modeling (MatCalc, Pandat) and atomic and nano-scale microstructure characterization (TEM, APT, SEM, neutrons, synchrotron XRD) combined with simulations. Property analysis relates to thermophysical, magnetic, electrochemical, and mechanical properties. We have strong competence in creating metastable and amorphous materials via rapid solidification techniques and in structural and thermophysical analysis using ultrafast heating and cooling rates.
We work mostly at the boundary of physics and materials science, but have recently also addressed more biologically oriented topics via collaborations with persons in the medical area.
