Magnetic Fe-based Metallic Glasses

Here we develop and characterize new magnetic Fe-based BMGs with extremely soft-magnetic properties. We also design BMG composites containing bcc α-Fe nanocrystals that do not embrittle upon nanocrystallization. Furthermore, we investigate the Invar effect in magnetic Fe-based glasses, and recently demonstrated and explained its universal occurrence in amorphous Fe-based systems, contrary to its rare existence in crystalline materials.

In this context, we characterize the structural and magnetic properties on all length scales ranging from the atomic (APT, TEM, synchrotron XRD) to the macroscopic (dilatometry, magnetization) scale.
