SmCo Permanent Magnets

Permanent magnets, such as Sm–Co-based alloys, have complex micro- and nanostructures. Competing magnetic interactions in these materials may generate unconventional magnetic structures and processes that need to be investigated and understood in detail to further improve their performance. In this context, we aim to correlate their nanoscopic structures with the associated magnetic behavior to fundamentally understand the nanoscale magnetic phenomena involved. We tackle this by combining nanoscale chemical and magnetic imaging (analytical and Lorentz TEM, electron holography) with microstructural investigations (TEM, APT) and micromagnetic modeling.
